Whipped Cream Gas (“Laughing Gas”): A Dangerous Drug Capturing the Youth — How The Department for Public Safety in Haifa is Combating This Phenomenon

December, a month dedicated to the national fight against drug addiction and alcoholism, sees The Department for Public Safety in Haifa, led by Kirill Karetnik, actively working to prevent drug and alcohol use among teenagers and young adults. It’s important to note that these efforts include a variety of initiatives aimed at raising awareness, educating youth, and preventing dangerous behaviors that can have devastating consequences for the lives of many people.

Throughout the month, lectures are being held at high schools across the city, focusing on the dangers of alcohol and other dangerous substances, especially when driving. Additionally, special lectures for parents are organized in various languages, including Russian, Arabic, and Amharic, to ensure that the message about safety and responsibility reaches all sectors of society in Haifa.

One of the most alarming phenomena gaining popularity among the youth is the use of whipped cream gas, also known as “laughing gas.” Due to its accessibility and low cost, this gas has become a “light drug” for teenagers, but it is, in fact, extremely dangerous. Inhaling this gas can lead to severe consequences, including irreversible damage to the nervous system, heart problems, and even death in severe cases. What is particularly worrying is the sharp increase in its use during periods of social tension. In response, the Department for Public Safety in Haifa is taking active steps to educate parents and youth about the risks associated with this substance. As part of the city campaign to prevent the use of “laughing gas,” various initiatives have been developed and implemented, including billboards, social media videos, and field outreach in recreational areas such as clubs and bars.

The Department is also actively working on the ground. Teams of safety instructors and community coordinators regularly visit clubs and bars on weekends. They distribute informational materials, alcohol testers, and promote responsible leisure, reminding people of the importance of safety.

As the New Year’s holidays approach, the Department organized an important conference with the police and city club and bar owners. The conference presented strict recommendations for ensuring the safety of partygoers, including measures to counteract drug and alcohol abuse. This event has been an important step in promoting cooperation between various stakeholders aimed at maintaining public safety.

We all want to relax, unwind, and enjoy life, but our main responsibility is to ensure that everyone returns home safe and sound,” said the Head of the Department, Kirill Karetnik. “Using whipped cream gas has become a real threat, and we are using all available resources to eradicate this problem and protect the future of our youth. This is a joint battle of the city, families, and law enforcement agencies.

The Department for Public Safety in Haifa invites all residents of the city to join the efforts to create a safer and more responsible environment, where the life of every individual is the top priority.
