State Ulpans in Haifa
A state ulpan is a network of language schools across the country created to help new immigrants integrate successfully. Education follows the standards of the Ministry of Education.
Main Features:
- Teachers – native speakers.
- Schedule – morning and evening groups.
- Course Duration – from 420 to 450 academic hours.
There are three state ulpans in Haifa:
- Ulpán Etzion
- Ulpán Beit Erdshtain
- Ulpán Aba Hushi
All ulpans follow a unified program approved by the Ministry of Education. However, each has its own unique characteristics.

Who is it for?
- Age: 22 to 35 years.
- Requirement: A higher education degree.
When do groups start?
- In the fall (after the autumn holidays).
- In the spring (after Passover).
How to apply?
- Send an email two months before the course begins.

After submitting your application, you will be invited for an interview to assess your Hebrew level.

Ulpan Aba Hushi

Age: from 18 to 60 years old
Morning groups of different levels:
- Class time: from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM
- Frequency: 5 times a week

If you already have knowledge of Hebrew, visit Aba Hushi for a level assessment. You will be placed in the appropriate group and can complete your “first ulpan” at an advanced level.
Evening classes:
- Levels Aleph+ and Bet
- Duration: 150 hours
- For those continuing to study Hebrew

Important Rules

Attendance and Exams:
- 80% attendance is required to receive a certificate.
- A certificate is issued only upon passing exams: (i) an internal oral exam and (ii) a written exam by the Ministry of Education (minimum score: 55+ points).

- Right to a voucher for the next course.
- Voucher for professional retraining from the Ministry of Integration.
