In Haifa, the Haifa Association for Immigrants Absorption has been operating for about 30 years. It is located at Yud Lamed Peretz Street, 20, in the “Beit Ole” building. The association serves as a nationwide municipal model for the reception and integration of new immigrants.Even in the last 12 days, when Israel was under rocket attacks from Iran, the association’s staff continued to provide assistance to new immigrants and everyone in need.Their work was especially important on June 22, when a rocket fell on Nordau Street in Hadar, causing serious destruction. Many immigrants were confused and did not know where to turn. The association’s staff were there — at the emergency assistance center for victims, organized by the municipality at Herzl Street 61-63, providing help on-site.
Despite the tense situation, an important project was completed during these days: the paving of the courtyard at the Haifa Association for Immigrants Absorption building. According to the chairman of the association, Kirill Karetnik, the idea of improving the courtyard had been maturing for about a year, and its implementation was a matter of principle for him.
“It was important not only to help people but also to create a dignified space where it is pleasant to come,” noted Karetnik.
Now, when the long-awaited calm arrives, hundreds of immigrants will once again be able to visit the association — for classes in ulpans, consultations, and support. They will be greeted by a renovated, tidy courtyard at the main entrance to the building, symbolizing care and hope.
